Hello, I’m Ryan SanAngelo!
I had a life-changing experience during my sophomore year at Western CT State University in Danbury, CT. I took a children's literature class. For the final project, I wrote a story called, "A Boy Named Eddie, Who Shared His Spaghetti."
Post-completion of the class, I attempted to get my story published. After several rejections, I found a publisher in Boyds Mills Press. The connection came about after meeting the company’s president, Clay Winters, at a one-night class called How to Get Published. The book was published in 2002, as "Spaghetti Eddie."
In preparation for my first author visit, I wrote a few songs to play after I read my book. I was absolutely blown away by the response the students gave me. I knew right then and there this is what I wanted to do. It was so deeply meaningful to finally find an audience for my creativity. I had wanted to be a rock star; now I got to be a "rock star" for children - the greatest audience of all!
Since then, I’ve conducted author visits at venues throughout New England and beyond. I’ve charismatically showcased my books, discussions, and engaging music to the delight of audiences big and small. In 2011, I published my second book, Bye Bye Balloon, as well as the Smile Every Day Activity Book and CD, through my own company Little King Press. I published my third book, Wake Up, Tommy! You’re in a Book! three years later.
From visiting schools as an author, I was inspired to become a teacher. In 2009, I received my Master's degree in Elementary Education from the University of Bridgeport. I proudly taught first grade, second grade, and worked as a media specialist.
I am now working part time as an author/performer. I absolutely love when I can be just me. The response I receive totally validates that I’m doing the right thing! My performances are highly entertaining and engaging. I am well-equipped with all my years of varied experiences within me. My favorite part of being an author is performing live. I absolutely love getting students excited about using their imaginations and encouraging them to believe in themselves. Also, in getting the little ones to dance and be playful. I’m so happy to have the best job!
